Family Tree DNA of McCarthy surname

The McCarthy Surname Reconstruction Project has been started through Family Tree DNA of Houston, Texas.  The Project will attempt through Y-DNA analysis to compare individuals with surnames common to the McCarthy Clan for their similarities and differences.  Hopefully, this will facilitate making family connections among McCarthys throughout the world.

The cost per person is $99.00 and involves taking a swab of the cheek pouch.  A sampling kit can be ordered by going into the McCarthy Surname Reconstruction Project on the Family Tree DNA website at:
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=S19539

For more information on Family Tree DNA visit the website at:

What:  The Beara Breifne Greenway Events
When:  May 17, 2003 to September 13, 2003
Where:  Ireland

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the historic march of O Sullivan Beara from the Beara Peninsula in West Cork to Breifne in the Cavan Leitrim area, there will be a systematic series of festivals beginning in Blacklion in Co Cavan on the 17th May 2003 and finishing in Beara Peninsula Co. Cork/ Kerry on 13th September 2003.  This series of festivals is called The Beara Breifne Greenway Events.  Each town along the Clans route will be a holding a festival which will be a mixture of walking, cycling, heritage, clan events, street entertainment and music.  In each area there will be a clan re-enactment and gathering to celebrate the individual clan in each area.  The MacCarthy clan gathering will be held on:

14 August at Kanturk, Co Cork;

15 August at Millstreet, Co Cork;

16 August at Carriganima, Co. Cork;

13 September at Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry.

Each gathering will no doubt prove to be a interesting and fun experience with a chance to meet locals from your own ancestral clan along with people who have travelled from far and away for this unique opportunity.
