The Clan MacCarthy Society has recently received a letter from the Irish Genealogical Office in which they state that apparently only the files on The MacCarthy Mór situation from April, 1998, will ultimately be released, and the release of these files is delayed pending resolution of appeals on their release.
Although the Chief Herald, recently resigned, advised the Society that in order to obtain all the correspondance between the IGO and The MacCarthy Mór, a request could be made under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997, it now appears that only the records dating from the commencement of the Act, April, 1998, can become available. Obviously, obtaining the full record from the IGO appears to be remote.
